Western Cape Voters’ Perception of Whether Like-Minded Opposition Parties Should Form A Pact in Order to Prevent A National-Level ANC-EFF Coalition Government
This report investigates the perceptions of registered voters in the Western Cape on whether they believe that the only way to prevent a national ANC-EFF coalition is for like-minded opposition parties to form a pre-election pact to try and get a 51% national majority together. The data in the report comes from a July 2023 Foundation survey. The survey was conducted telephonically amongst a sample of 2 590 geographically and demographically representative registered voters in the Western Cape. TENTATIVE CONCLUSIONS
Of all registered voters in the Western Cape, 79% agree that the only way to prevent a national ANC-EFF coalition is for like-minded political parties to form a pre-election pact and work together. However, in lower socio-economic strata the data on this question splits far more evenly. This kind of finding has been common to several of the questions tested by the Foundation in its survey work on the Western Cape.
