South African Public Opinion On Expropriation Of Private Property
This report explores the perceptions of South Africans on expropriation of private property. The data comes from a survey of 1 004 demographically and geographically representative registered voters conducted telephonically by the Foundation during June of 2025. That survey had a margin of error of 4%. Totals may not add up to 100% where respondents refused to answer a question.

TENTATIVE CONCLUSIONS
The data demonstrates that almost two thirds of all South Africans are opposed to the expropriation of private property by the state in the public interest. While there is some variation in the degree of disagreement, the majority of South Africans across lines of race, education, income and party affiliation are opposed to the expropriation of any private property by the state in the public interest.
