TENTATIVE CONCLUSIONS
The data here splits in favour of America but perhaps not by the extent that some observers would think. Roughly 40% of voters believe that life in America is better than life in China, whilst roughly 30% believe that this is not so. The Foundation thinks that there is a tie-in between these answers and the responses the Foundation has had to whether China contributes more investment and jobs to South Africa than does America. In the case of the latter question opinion splits in favour of China. What this is beginning to suggest is that Western rivals are making some headway in the battle for public opinion in South Africa.
